I’m Laurel I. Brooke—an author, storyteller, and modern druidess devoted to myth, magic, and the stories that shape who we become.
From 2021–2023, I went through four near-death initiations—one in each season, one for each direction of the Medicine Wheel I had honored for years. I didn’t understand it at the time, but those initiations were preparing me for a threshold moment: the return to my creative path.
The day after the final initiation, I walked into the snowy woods of the Sierra mountains, made an offering, and called for the story that wanted to be told through me. I had stepped away from writing for years, unable to find my way back. That day, something shifted. Magic arrived, unmistakably, in the physical world—and the story that would become my debut novel found me.
I’m currently completing my debut novel, a gaslamp romantasy retelling of The Marriage of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnelle—a story of sovereignty, desire, and what becomes possible when we choose our own truth and write our own story.
Alongside my writing, I host Mythic Living, a free community space for exploring ritual, archetypes, and myth as living forces in our modern lives, and I offer Sovereign Breath, a grounding practice designed to calm the nervous system and restore creative flow.
I live in the woods of Northern California, where I can often be found reading, walking among the trees, and listening for the stories that have not yet been remembered.
